Dry Needling in Portsmouth, NH

A Tool That Supports How You Move

Dry needling can be one useful part of a comprehensive care plan helping to reduce muscle tension and improve movement tolerance so your PT work can progress. It's not a standalone fix, but for the right client, it can make a meaningful difference.

When Movement Stays Stuck Despite Your Effort

Tension keeps limiting your range

You've been working on it, but certain muscles hold tight no matter what you try. Movement stays restricted in ways that slow everything else down.

Soreness lingers longer than it should

Areas that should recover between sessions stay uncomfortable. That persistent tension affects how you move and what you're able to do in your sessions.

Progress in PT feels slower than expected

When muscle guarding or sensitivity keeps you from moving fully, it's harder to build the strength and control you're working toward. Addressing that tension can open a window for better progress.

Common Conditions We Treat

What Dry Needling May Help Address

People who benefit from dry needling as part of their PT care often share patterns of muscle tension or movement restriction that are slowing their overall progress.

Muscle Tension and Tightness - Persistent tension in targeted areas that limits range of motion or makes movement feel guarded and uncomfortable.

Low Back Tension - Deep muscle holding patterns in the low back that contribute to restricted movement and recurring discomfort.

Hip and Glute Tightness - Tension in the hips or glutes that affects how you move, walk, or progress through your PT exercises.

Neck and Upper Back Holding Patterns - Muscular guarding in the neck and upper back that affects posture, range, and how you tolerate movement.

Post-Activity Soreness and Recovery - Lingering soreness after activity that isn't resolving well on its own and is limiting what you can do in sessions.

Movement Restriction Within PT Care - Stiffness or sensitivity that consistently limits your ability to move through the exercises your PT plan requires.

Shoulder and Upper Arm Tightness - Restricted shoulder movement or persistent upper arm tension that limits what you can do in PT and carries over into daily activities.

Calf and Lower Leg Tension - Tightness or cramping in the lower leg that affects gait, exercise tolerance, or your ability to progress through lower body PT work.

Frequently Asked Questions

Considering dry needling? Here's what people ask us most before getting started.

Does dry needling hurt?

Most people are surprised that it's more tolerable than they expected. You may feel a brief muscle twitch or a deep aching sensation when the needle is placed, this is normal and usually brief. We always talk through what to expect beforehand and adjust based on your comfort.

Is dry needling a standalone service?

At Golden Hour, dry needling is offered as part of a physical therapy plan of care not as a standalone session. We use it when it fits your presentation and supports the movement goals we're working toward together.

How do I know if dry needling is right for me?

That's something we assess during your PT evaluation. If dry needling is a tool that could support your progress, we'll discuss it with you, explain the reasoning, and you always have the choice to include it or not.

How many dry needling sessions will I need?

It varies by person and by what we're addressing. For some clients, a few sessions within a PT package make a noticeable difference. We track how you respond and adjust your plan accordingly it's never prescribed without a clear purpose.

Will I be sore afterward?

Some people feel mild soreness in the treated area for a day or two similar to how a muscle feels after a workout. This typically resolves quickly. We'll give you guidance on what to expect and how to support your recovery after each session.
